July 1 is the date being proposed by Autopistas del Sol to re-open the Atenas-Orotina section of the San Jose - Caldera highway to Costa Rica's Central pacific. Although officials of the MOPY, Concessiones and the COSEVI prefer not to refer to a specific day or date.

The date is based on a report by Autopistas to the MOPT of the progress of the work on the road to reduce the possibilities of landslides and rock falls between kilometers 37 and 48 of the highway. This new road was opened on January 27, 2010, and takes hours off travel time to Jaco and surrounding areas on Costa Rica's Central pacific coast.

Edwin Rodriguez, heading the MOPT comission on the work, said that although the concessionaire is committing to the July 1 date, the MOPT prefers to wait before making any announcement.

Rodríguez added that the MOPT will not be making any predictions on the re-opening date, but rather will be announce the re-opening when the road is ready and the specialists have signed off on it.
