The Autopistas del Sol, the concessionare of the San Jose - Caldera isn't talking but it is estimated that it is losing some ¢9.1 million colones daily only from the tolls on passenger vehicles. When you add the tolls paid by buses, trucks and vans, that number could easily be double or more.

The closure of the 11 kilometers between Orotina and Atenas on route 27 is eliminating ¢610 colones for each passenger vehicle (the Atenas toll) daily from the the company. An average 15,000 passenger vehicle use the road daily, which come to ¢9.1 million daily.

The road will be close now for the past 8 days. Although no one is saying when it will re-open, the ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) said earlier this week that it could be a few more weeks instead of the two months previously estimated.

Autopistas is keeping its mouth shut on estimated losses and the time frame to re-open. It needs to deliver progress report to the MOPT and trying to keep the media away from the work sites.

Before the road will be re-opened, MOPT will make a thorough inspection of the work, using experts to point out any potential problems.
